Growing a Farmer: Impressions 2

Growing a Farmer: Impressions 2 ‘ Growing a Farmer’ is at the same time one of the best books that I have ever read, and one of the worst. The funny thing is that I consider it one of the worst because of what made me like it initially: the level of detail. This book is written with a very deep level of detail, which explains every process and activity involved in the book. Going ahead with the reading instead, this feature has become very heavy to bear, making the reading slow and unpleasant. But I noticed this thing only because I really liked what I was reading. If I were reading something I did not like at all I would not have noticed it. I liked how the main character is not afraid of showing us his mistakes, to let us understand that he learns from them and is grateful to them if he can do what he does. I am a person who is always afraid of doing something wrong, and this book taught me a lot under this point of view. In these present days, we only see people who never ...

Job Description: Pizza Handyman

Pizza Handyman I always liked to be in contact with people, that’s why this past summer, from July to mid-August, I worked in a pizzeria in Pisa. I choose to have a job because I wanted to put some money aside before leaving for Los Angeles; I didn’t start with the idea of working in a pizzeria, but I immediately caught the possibility when they presented it to me. At the beginning, I had some doubt about, but now I am very happy and proud of what I did, and I would immediately go back to July to start again. I didn’t have a specific task during my period there, but I can easily summarize what I did in three words: ·       Preparation ·       Table-Assistance ·       Delivery Preparation   This was the hardest part: I had to make pizza. When I arrived the first day I knew nothing about how to make a good pizza, but thanks to the help of Giovannino, the oldest ‘pizzaiolo’ (pizza-make...

'Growing a farmer': Impressions

‘Growing a farmer’ : Impressions So far, I am enjoying reading Kurt Timmermeister’s book a lot, mainly thanks to two elements: the level of detail, and the great understandability and clearness of the author. The level of details makes everything more interesting, letting understand why things work in a certain way rather than another and why the main character made certain decisions. The awesome level of understandability instead, given by a plain, clear, and simple writing style, makes the book incredibly more enjoyable to read, expecially for someone who is not a native English speaker like I am. Often, while reading a book written in English, I find myself reading a passage two or three times, to understand everything, or I even search the translations of some weird and non-used words; with ‘Growing a farmer’ this never occurred. On the other hand, there has been one thing that I didn’t like throughout the reading of the book: the context. Let me e...
